EYE ON ART
Do you have an eye for art? Good taste? OK then, really picky? Anyway, whatever your interest in art I have an event for you.
Persad Center will hold its Seventh Annual Art for AIDS Benefit on June 20th, from 5:30pm 11pm, at the Frick Fine Arts Building (on the University of Pittsburgh campus in Oakland). To develop the theme, 1996's sub-title is "Reach for the Stars". With over 200 pieces of donated art, including jewelry & wearable art, photography, furniture, sculpture, and paintings (one of which was done by me & my husband) to be verbally and silently auctioned, come see if you can find something to brighten up your favorite room (or darken your dungeon)!
This year, in addition to the 200 pieces mentioned above, the eclectic array expands it's dimensions by adding the Designer's Showcase. Twenty-five objets d'art that have been donated by local interior designers and decorators (its just like the tapestry banner in the movie Jeffery, "Care With Flair").
OK, now let's talk about the food: the kickoff
Dining & Dancing Soiree will have catered food from: All In Good Taste; The Balcony & Hotlicks; China Palace & Sushi Too: Eat 'n Park Restaurants, Interstate Hotels, La Charcuterie; Mad Mex; Kaya Casbah and Starbucks Coffee (you'll be able to gracefully graze on gourmet until you've found your favorite).
Art for AIDS not only serves as a visual / social event, but most importantly, it serves the community. 100% of the proceeds go to directly benefit HIV/AIDS clients and to support the growing number of educational and clinical programs through Persad.
One other major addition for Art for AIDS '96 is the corporate sponsorship form Kaufmann's and The Giant Eagle Foundation, (both of whom gave a $15,000 grant). A special "THANKS" from Persad and its AIDS service recipients goes to these and otehr corporate sponsors: Bayer Corporation, Blue Cross, Duquesne Light, NeoVision and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Last year, Art for AIDS brought in over 1400 attendees and $175,000. This year, the anticipated goal is close to $200,000. There will be a Public Preview staged on June 18th & 19th.
Tickets for this "eye-opening" occasion are $50
& are available by calling Persad Center: 441-9786. << LOUIS PAUL EROS >>
